The district at a glance
The Camas School District serves roughly 7,200 students across about 16 schools, covering most of the city plus Fern Prairie and slivers of Vancouver and Washougal. It is consistently one of the highest-performing districts in Washington — routinely landing in the top handful of the state's 300 or so districts in ranking sites' comparisons, with student proficiency rates in math and reading far above state averages. The high school's mascot, the Papermakers, is a nod to the mill that built the town.

The schools
Elementary
Neighborhood elementary schools include Helen Baller (near downtown), Prune Hill, Dorothy Fox, Grass Valley, Woodburn, and Lacamas Lake Elementary. Assignment is by attendance boundary, so if a specific school matters to you, confirm the boundary for any address before you buy — boundaries do get adjusted as the town grows.
Middle
Skyridge and Liberty are the district's comprehensive middle schools, both well regarded. Odyssey Middle School is the district's project-based-learning option, admission by application/lottery.
High
Camas High School is the flagship — large, academically strong, competitive in 4A athletics, and regularly ranked among Washington's better public high schools. Discovery High School offers a smaller project-based alternative, and Hayes Freedom High School provides a smaller non-traditional setting. Camas Connect Academy is the district's online option.
For house hunters: "In Camas" and "in the Camas School District" are not identical — a few addresses with Camas mailing addresses feed other districts, and vice versa. Always verify the assigned schools for a specific address with the district before making an offer.
Beyond academics
Friday nights at Doc Harris Stadium are a genuine town event, the music and drama programs are strong, and the community consistently passes levies to fund schools — which tells you a lot about local priorities. Youth sports, the Camas Public Library's kids' programming, and lake-adjacent summer camps round out a very family-oriented ecosystem.
