Camas started as a paper mill town in the 1880s — the high school teams are still called the Papermakers — and grew into one of the most sought-after small cities in Washington. About 27,000 people live here, in a town that manages to have a genuinely walkable historic downtown, a lake system with miles of forested trails inside city limits, and highly rated public schools, all within a short drive of Portland International Airport.
